Brownlow 2019: All the drama from this year's count
The night in pictures so far
Leader after round 10
Just how will the count unfold? This is where there's big support for second-year Cat Tim Kelly. Kelly is heavily favoured to be topping the leaderboard near the halfway point of the season, ahead of Lachie Neale, Patrick Cripps and Nathan Fyfe. All this does however is remind us that the finish to the count will be compelling. Patrick Dangerfield, Marcus Bontempelli and the ineligible Dustin Martin are all widely tipped to finish with a storm.

An earlier finish
As Sam McClure reported in The Age in August, the AFL has decided to shorten football’s most prestigious event.
Patrick Cripps, Lachie Neale, Tim Kelly or Marcus Bontempelli may be speaking a little earlier than expected on Brownlow Medal night, with the AFL deciding to shorten football’s most prestigious event. The league has confirmed to The Age that the count – to be held this year on Monday, September 23 – will be cropped at both the start and the end to streamline the event for guests and TV viewers alike.

Leader after round 5
Always an interesting situation to watch. Lachie Neale started the season on fire after odds of around 50-1 where offered in the pre-season of him going all the way. The new Brisbane Lion is favoured to be leading after five rounds, with Patrick Cripps and Patrick Dangerfield hot on his heels

Late preview
After three years where the eventual winner was effectively a fait accompli to win beforehand, this year's Brownlow count offers a whole lot more intrigue with a host of potential winners and some pundits even tipping joint winners in 2019. Pre-count favourite Patrick Dangerfield ($2.50) is the longest priced favourite since Joel Selwood five years ago – the year that Matt Priddis famously came from the clouds to salute.
30 years since the boy from Boggy Creek ...
In 1989, the boy from Boggy Creek etched his name in football history. Paul Couch, or "PC Couch" as his close mates like to refer to him, won the Brownlow medal with 22 votes, two votes ahead of Hawthorn's John Platten, and six votes in front of a group 1 bunch of footballers: Nicky Winmar, Tim Watson, Jason Dunstall and the ineligible Greg Williams.
