PATNA: Union minister
Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Sunday that the railways would construct five new platforms on the land provided by the state government and postal department near the
Hardinge Park area here. He also said two new business processing organizations (BPOs) would be opened at Gaya and
Muzaffarpur.
Prasad was addressing the annual function of
Bihar Industries Association (BIA). State industries minister Shyam Rajak and BIA president K P S Keshri also addressed the function.
Prasad said the Union IT ministry and the state industries department would collaborate to hold a seminar on e-governance at Patna, as proposed by Keshri.
Referring to the national economy, Prasad said the country’s GDP growth rate had fallen, but the fundamentals of the economy were in good health and, therefore, it would improve over the next few financial quarters.
Stressing on the significance of the developmental initiatives taken by the Centre, Prasad said robust economic development and creation of wealth was a must if the country had to achieve equality and narrow the gap between the rich and poor. He appealed to the people, including business sections, to pay their taxes honestly.
Referring to direct taxes, Prasad said the number of income tax payers had increased from 3.84 crore in 2013-14 to 6.86 crore at present, while the tax collections had also increased from Rs3.86 lakh crore in 2013-14 to Rs10.26 lakh crore. Further, he said the country has become the biggest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world. The number of mobile phone companies and the manufacturer of the mobile phone parts was 260 in the country.
Rajak said there was urgent need to create new job avenues in the state as the government jobs could absorb only 2% of the unemployed youths.
