Arunan bought mud and gravel, and repaired the stretch where a woman fell

Without waiting for the Chennai Corporation, a traffic sub-inspector filled a pothole near the busy Thirumangalam junction on Sunday afternoon, to prevent motorists from falling down.

Around 12.30 p.m. on Sunday, sub-inspector R. Arunan, attached to the Thirumangalam traffic enforcement wing, was busy covering the pothole using mud and gravel.

“The pothole has been there for the last few weeks. Initially, it was small, but now it has become big due to constant vehicular movement. On Saturday night, a woman motorist fell after her vehicle ran into it,” said Mr. Arunan.

To prevent more accidents, the policeman himself purchased mud and gravel, and repaired the road.

“Since it has been raining, people could fall after riding onto the pothole. I did not wait for the Chennai Corporation to repair it. Many traffic policemen do this by shelling out money from their own pockets. It’s a small service,” Mr. Arunan said.
