Cycle rally held in city

As part of World Car-Free Day celebrations

The World Car-Free Day celebrations organised jointly by the city Corporation and the Indus Cycling Embassy here on Sunday featured a cycle rally in which 141 cyclists, including children, took part.

V.Adimurthy, senior space scientist and former associate director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) who is also a cycling enthusiast, inaugurated the celebrations.

Suchitwa Mission executive director Mir Mohammed Ali and the city’s ‘Bicyle Mayor’ Prakash Gopinath took part in the rally. Mr. Ali flagged off the rally.

The cyclists started off from Manaveeyam Road to pedal past the Secretariat, Press Club, Palayam, Vellayambalam and Kowdiar and back to Manaveeyam. Muhammed Mussadiq of the CET cycling club attended the event with his 'Brain Cycle,' the bicycle that swerves to the right when you flick the handle to the left and vice versa.

Rithuparna, a class VIII student of Model Girls' School, Pattom, won a bicycle under the ‘Gift a Cycle Campaign.’

Mayor V.K. Prasanth inaugurated the ‘Mega Reuse campaign' organised as part of the celebrations.

Jamal Mohammed of Vazhayila led a ‘Cycle Clinic’ where nearly 30 bicycles were repaired.

Bicycle majors also organised an exhibition of different makes.

The celebrations came to a close with cultural programmes organised by the students of ‘Kanthari.’
