68 MU exams clash with poll dates, to be rescheduled

MUMBAI: Mumbai University will be rescheduling 68 exams falling on October 21 and 22, clashing with the assembly election dates. While the exams commencement days will remain unaffected, only the ones falling on these two days will be affected. University exams are scheduled to commence from October 1 this year.
An official from the examination section said that the rescheduled dates will be released shortly. Many of the major exams from across commerce, arts and science faculty will have an impact. Exams for TYBA, TYBCom and TYBSc and all other exams falling on October 21 and 22 will have to be rescheduled. While the state assembly polls will be held on October 21, exams scheduled a day before and a day after the exam are usually affected. Colleges which are used as polling booths will have to be made available for three days, and most college teachers are also deputed on election duty. October 20 is a Sunday and therefore, will not affect the university exam schedule. For the time-table for exams which are yet to be announced, the university will take the poll dates into account.
Most city schools will remain shut for Diwali vacation. However, internal exams falling on teacher training dates for poll duty may have to be rescheduled. Uday Nare, a teacher from Hansraj Morarji Public School in Andheri said that their exams will conclude before October 21. "But many of the teachers will be on poll duty and therefore, there may be some impact on the exams clashing with the training dates. The dates are not clear now," said Nare. Teachers' organisations have been protesting against the allocation of election duty in a haphazard manner for long.
