MUZAFFARNAGAR: For a moment though, she flinched while picking up her twin girls for a walk till a muddy pond on the village outskirts in UP’s
Muzaffarnagar. Even a cursory glance at their faces would have affected Nazma’s plans. Incidentally, it was also Daughter’s Day. Hours later, on Sunday afternoon, the girls’ bodies were fished out from the pond. And their mother landed behind the bars with their father, whose continuous thrashing and taunts had provoked
Nazma to take the extreme step.
According to local police, the incident took place in Muzaffarnagar’s Bhikki village. Soon after throwing the infants into the water body, Nazma raised a false alarm of abduction claiming that her daughters went missing while she was away to relieve herself.
Policemen rushed to the village, filed a case of kidnapping and started the investigation, only to bump into several inconsistencies in the woman’s claims.
Superintendent of police Satpal Antil said, “Police interrogated the couple in separate rooms and found unmatched statements. Later, the
woman broke down and admitted to throwing the infants into the pond.”
According to police, the woman took the extreme step following several altercations with her husband, Waseem, ever since the birth of their twin daughters.
On the information given by the couple, police recovered the bodies of the twin from the pond.
Police said that Waseem used to work as a labourer. But, for the last few days, he was unemployed and used to taunt and fight with his wife Nazma for giving birth to two girls.
The couple got married four years ago. They also have a one-year-old boy.
