3 snatchers held, 25 cases solved

Ludhiana: The Crime Investigation Agency on Sunday claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers, with the arrest of three.
As many as 25 snatching cases and two of vehicle-lifting were solved with the arrest of Raj Kumar of New Subhash Nagar, Aniket Kumar of Jodhewal and Satinder Singh of Gaunsgarh village. Their two accomplices are on the run.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Simratpal Singh said, “All three are school dropouts and work as labourers in hosiery factories. They are between 20 and 24 years old. They took to snatching to make easy buck.”
On a tip-off, they were arrested from T-point of Guru Vihar, Rahon Road, on Saturday evening. “They were crossing by the area on two motorcycles, which had fake registration number plates. During checking, 25 cellphones, including 21 smartphones, were recovered from them,” he added.
Assistant commissioner of police (detective) Surinder Mohan said, “They had formed the gang six months ago. They first stole two motorcycles and then executed 25 snatchings. In two cases, they threatened their victims with sharp-edged weapons. The gang used to target commuters, especially factory workers, at night. They were active in areas like Guru Vihar Road, Kailash Nagar, Tibba Road, Rahon Road and Kakowal Road, among others.”
Aniket was booked for snatching in January 2019 and declared a proclaimed offender in the case.

During interrogation, they told that the gang has two more members. The police are trying to trace them.
A case has been registered under sections 379-B (snatching), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) and 473 (making or possessing counterfeit seal etc with intent to commit forgery punishable otherwise) of the IPC.
