Udumalpet KV likely to start classes from temp bldg in Oct

Tirupur: A Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) school will soon start functioning in a temporary place on Rajendra road government higher secondary school premises in Udumalpet in the district from this academic year.
The school has started distributing applications for classes I to V since September 3.
Meanwhile, the authorities have been planning to commence works to construct a new building for the school on five acres donated by former Pollachi MP C Mahendran in the town.
The Union ministry of human resources and development (MHRD) announced four new KV schools for the state in March last, including one in Udumalpet. The school, which was meant to benefit civil families, would be funded by the state government.
“It is the norm of MHRD to announce a new KV school only if land is readily available for establishing it. Residents of Udumalpet have been demanding for a KV in the town. But there should be at least five acres if the school needed to be set up in urban region. We had searched for the land for many months but there was neither government’s land available nor had private people ready to donate it,” former AIADMK MP Mahendran said.
“So, I donated my five-acre land at Yeripalayam in Periyakottai panchayat on the outskirts of Udumalpet. It would benefit around 2,400 students to get quality education by paying nominal fees,” he added.
“As per the MHRD’s requirement, there should be temporary place to set up the school initially. The Udumalpet municipality allocated the space on Rajendra road government higher secondary school premises, where its office was already functioning,” the former MP said.

“We have been distributing applications for classes I to class V since September 3. Due to space constraint, we would start with only one section in each class initially in the temporary campus. As per the MHRD norms, the eligible candidates would be selected,” V Meganathan, principal of Sulur KV Air force station, who is also the in-charge principal of the new school, said.
“The students who were already studying in other schools too can submit applications. We believe that since all the classes are primary classes, it would be easy to train the students quickly, though the school would be commenced a bit late this academic year,” he added.
