Police are investigating the cause of a fire at the portico of a Public Works department contractor’s house at Mannargudi on Sunday night. Two motorcycles parked at the portico were gutted.
The inmates of the house, S.D.H. Natarajan and his family members, noticed the fire around midnight and rushed out. As they saw the two motorcycles in flames, they tried to put out the blaze.
Subsequently, police were informed and sniffer dogs were brought to the scene of crime at Natarajapillai Street on Monday morning. The dog ran up to nearby K.K.Nagar area and a plastic can suspected to have been used by the culprits to carry inflammable liquid was seized.
