‘Clarify on alleged MHRM admission scam’

Vadodara: Gujarat governor Acharya Dev Vrat has sought clarification from M S University on allegations of scam in admission given by the university’s faculty of social work in the master’s of human resource management (MHRM) programme.
Based on a representation made by senate member Kapil Joshi, the governor’s office has written to MSU vice-chancellor (VC) seeking the clarification.
Joshi had last month alleged that the faculty issued the final list of students selected for MHRM programme which mentioned name of a girl student who neither sat for the written test which was held on June 27 nor her name appeared in the list of 150 students who were called for group discussion (GD) and personal interviews (PIs) on July 11, July 12 and July 13.
Calling it a case of ‘parachute dropping’, Joshi had alleged that since the girl student is daughter of MSU VC’s personal assistant, she was given undue favour.
MSU officials had refuted the allegations terming them completely baseless. The officials had stated that the girl student had appeared in the written test, GD and PI and she has been admitted to MHRM strictly as per university rules and syndicate resolution.

The officials had cited a syndicate resolution whereby sons or daughters of permanent teaching or non-teaching employees of the university can be granted admission in degree or postgraduate or diploma courses in the university under supernumerary quota.
As per the resolution, the total intake under the scheme, should not exceed the maximum limit of two seats or 1 % of total intake of the particular programme.
