Manchester United suffered a first away defeat of the season as they lost 2-0 to West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Here, Richard Fay gives his verdict on how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side performed .
David de Gea 4
Made some decent saves but wasn’t tested much. Wasn’t helped by his defence and should have done better with the second goal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 5
Was good at times defensively but United are already over reliant on his tackling. Offered little in attack.
Victor Lindelof 4
Didn’t cover himself in glory and struggled with the physical attacking approach from West Ham .
Harry Maguire 5
Started the game well but was poor for the first goal and missed a glorious chance of his own.
Ashley Young 4
Solid when required to defend but offers little going forward and was pretty awful on set-pieces.
Nemanja Matic 3
Another uninspiring performance in midfield.
Andreas Pereira 4

Still unclear exactly what he offers to this United team or his best role. Works hard, but little end product from him on the right wing.
Scott McTominay 5
Plenty of spirit and fight but lacked any creativity, a theme common among every United midfielder.
Juan Mata 4
Looked lost when on the ball and was unable to create any real chances. His miss at the start of the second half was poor.
Daniel James 5
Lively as you’d expect, but failed to ever get going in any attacking capacity.
Marcus Rashford 3

Offered very little up front and his day went from bad to worse by ending prematurely through injury.
Subs:
Fred 5
(On for Matic , 71.) Baffling as to why he was brought on so late. Looked promising again, but needs consistent playing time.
Angel Gomes N/A
(On for Mata, 81.) No time to impress.
Jesse Lingard 4
(On for Rashford, 60.) Added some much needed energy to the attack, but was unable to offer a real threat at goal.
Not used: Romero, Rojo, Tuanzebe, Chong.
