Family of Usha Gupta, who was shot dead by bike-borne assailants on Saturday morning, said no one helped her ailing husband to take her to a hospital, which was less than 200 metres from the spot.
Sanjay Goel, Usha’s brother from Patparganj, reached the spot in 20 minutes and took her to Max Hospital.
“By the time I reached, the police had also come to the spot. After that, we took her to the hospital but she might have been saved if she was rushed earlier,” he said.
Dr. Goel, head of cardiac anesthesia at Max Hospital Vaishali, said his brother-in-law Kailash Gupta called him at 6.50 p.m.
“While on call, I was requesting people that they should take her to the hospital immediately but no one helped. They said only the police will take her,” he said.
Ailing husband
The family said Mr. Kailash couldn’t drive because he remains unwell. Usha had been taking him for dialysis three days a week to Vaishali hospital for over five years now.
Usha is survived by her husband, son Sanyam, and daughter Shruti.
