SURAT:
Videos of a woman sitting in the visitors’ room of Lajpore Central Jail (LCJ) with money in her hand have gone viral on social media on Saturday. The videos expose claims of the jail authorities of tight security at LCJ.
Total six videos were shot and shared on social media by someone. A person can be heard alleging in audio recording that the woman seen in the videos is collecting Rs500 from those who want their meeting time with prisoner extended.
The woman in the videos is seated at the table with cash in her hand and a bag between legs. She is seated near a thick iron window grill and on the other side there is a man who is wearing uniform for prisoners.
This man has a register and a pen in his hand while jail guards keep moving around him.
The man making videos also records audio conversation of a woman saying that she will get money from outside the jail premises. This message is conveyed to someone inside the jail by the woman seated at the table in the visitors’ room.
In one of the videos, the seated woman realizes that a video was being made of her. She shouts at a guard on the other side of the grill pointing to the person making the video.
“It is a serious matter and I have ordered an inquiry by deputy superintendent of police. We are checking videos and audios. The allegations are about money being charged for extending meeting time in the jail. This is grave issue and will be investigated on priority,” LCJ superintendent Dharmendra Ninama told TOI.
“Mobile phones are not allowed inside the jail campus. Therefore, how the phone to shoot the videos reached inside the jail premises will also be investigated. We are checking if it was due to our staff’s negligence or their involvement,” Ninama added.
