The Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Saturday summoned four cricket players, who are members of two Karnataka Premier League (KPL) teams, in connection with a suspected betting and match-fixing scam in KPL.

This comes a day after they detained and questioned Ali Asfak Thara, owner of Belagavi Panthers, for his alleged involvement in match-fixing.

According to sources, Mr. Thara was in touch with bookies as well as players from other teams even during matches that his team was playing. “We are questioning the four players. There are more people involved in this scam,” said a senior official.

The four players were allegedly in constant touch with Mr. Thara during matches, in violation of the rules. Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police, refused to divulge the identity of the players.
