An autorickshaw driver gave a chase and apprehended a 19-year-old man and two juveniles after he saw them attack a police constable who had tried to stop the trio riding a two-wheeler without helmets.

The incident took place on 11th Cross 4th Main of Malleswaram on Thursday evening.

Constable Guruswami D.C., 29, attached to the Malleswaram police was on duty near the office of Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan. “When he flagged them down, the trio approached him, and one of them pushed him down before speeding away,” said a police officer.

An autorickshaw driver, who witnessed the incident, chased and stopped them. With the help of passersby, he apprehended the three youth and brought them to Malleswaram police station.

Mr. Guruswami sustained injuries on his left knee and left hand.

The accused have been identified as Suheb Khan, 19, the rider, and two other juveniles aged 17 years.

While Suheb Khan has been sent to the prison at Parappana Agrahara, his friends are at a State-run boys remand home, a senior police officer said.
