Goa police put over 125 drug dealers under surveillance

PANAJI: Goa police has put 127 drug dealers under surveillance in an attempt to break the backbone of the drug trade in the state.
The crime branch of Goa police has begun summoning drug dealers to its office for investigation to source more information about the drug trade network.
The police have scrutinised data on drug-related cases of the last five years from local police stations, the anti-narcotic cell (ANC) and the crime branch and a team of police inspectors has been constituted to keep an eye on the drug peddlers.
With this exercise, police are hoping to build intelligence to be used to weaken the drug mafia in the state. For foreign nationals who were arrested in drug cases but are now not traceable, the police have decided to call the individuals who stood as their surety to collect information on the accused.
As per police statistics, on an average, one drug seizure case has been booked in the state every alternate day since January 2017. In the last two and half years, Goa police have booked 504 cases and arrested over 504 persons.
Ecstasy tablets, MDMA, marijuana products like oil, ganja, charas, LSD stamps, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and ecstasy powder were seized during the various narcotic raids conducted in the state. The maximum cases booked are recorded by the the ANC of Goa police followed by the crime Branch, Calangute police station and Pernem police station.

Police said that Goa police would like to emphasise the fact that in the battle against drugs, police require cooperation from the public. “We want the public to be our eyes and ears in our work. In case any one has any information regarding sale ,manufacturing or distribution of narcotics, they may contact the incharge,” police said.
Most drugs make their way to Goa by train and through the state’s porous borders and are sourced from Mumbai, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Gokarna in Karnataka, and the Andhra Pradesh-Odhisa border districts.
