PUNE: After 10 years, Pune will get a mobility report in two months which will give a clear picture of traffic issues in the city, said Smart City CEO Rajendra Jagtap.

There has also been a drop of 33 per cent in fatal accidents till now as compared to last year, said Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham.

They were speaking during a function in the city.

The function was  to hand over 80 smart patrol bikes equipped with jammers, camera and GPS to Pune traffic police by Pune Mayor Mukta Tilak at the Commissioner’s Office in Camp on Tuesday.

Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) gave the bikes and they will hand over 60 more in the near future.

Tilak said, “The police and smart city should come out with localised solutions for traffic issues in various parts of Pune.” She also handed over two smart vans to fire brigade at another function.

300 CHOWKS SURVEYED FOR MOBILITY REPORT
Jagtap added, “The last Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Pune city was prepared in 2007. After that, there is no data. The Ring Road Project and Pune Metro Project reports have selective data. Hence, we conducted a study of 300 junctions to know the current load, speed of vehicles and traffic issues in the city. The reports will be prepared in two months.”

About the mobility report, he added, “There are four components – study, physical intervention like junction redesign, island restructuring, changing signal light, board, etc, then technology in signals like synchronisation of signals under the Adaptive Traffic Management System (ATMS). , increasing average speed, minimising stoppages and finally regulatory mechanisms. ”

PUNE TO HAVE COP-FREE JUNCTIONS
Police Commissioner Venkatesham said, “The smart bikes will be a major contributor to the daily operation of the traffic police in the city. In a similar way, keeping in mind examples of developed countries, the unprecedented system of cop-free junctions will be implemented in the city on the basis of sophisticated technology with the help of Pune Smart City.”

Jagtap said, “Pune is the first smart city to implement such a project in the country.”

ATMS, PMPML BUSES TO RESOLVE 30 PC TRAFFIC WOES
Venkatesham added, “The ATMS for which tender process is going on and the addition of more buses to the fleet of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will resolve 30 per cent traffic issues of Pune. Due to various measures, we have been able to reduce fatal accidents by 33 per cent this year, which is way ahead of the State’s 2.8 per cent record.”

WHAT ARE SMART BIKES?
These smart bikes have a camera for the live shooting of traffic violations, smartphones for sending videos and photos to the command centre and also GPS tracking system to help traffic control room get live information and location.
