Mitsubishi Teases New PHEV SUV Concept Set To Launch At The Tokyo Motor Show

Mitsubishi is one of the first carmakers to announce a premiere for the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The vehicle in question is a small plug-in hybrid SUV, which will be presented to the public between October 25 and November 4 in Japan.

Not much is known about it at the time of writing, as the company, which is part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, hasn’t announced any details. Still, they did say that it will get a downsized plug-in hybrid powertrain and electric four-wheel drive.

This setup will help it “deliver unparalleled driving pleasure and confidence over all terrain in light and wind” and “allow drivers of all abilities to confidently push further over the unmade or rough road surfaces when engaging in outdoor activities”, according to official press release.

Accompanying the announcement is a teaser image that previews the rear quarter design of the, as yet unnamed, study. It has a rather boxy shape with a split roof styling, carbon fiber trim and four circular elements that could be part of the ventilation system. A small rear window offers a glimpse of what is probably part of the powertrain.

This is only the first teaser, so more should follow in the coming weeks, as its unveiling date is fast approaching. Thus, Mitsubishi will drop more pieces of the puzzle, culminating with the grand presentation scheduled for the first press day, on October 23.
