Families of 8 slain policemen to get ₹1 crore solatium each

Decision taken at a meeting headed by Deputy CM

The Aam Aadmi Party government on Tuesday decided to extend an ex-gratia of ₹1 crore each to the families of eight Delhi policemen who lost their lives while on duty.

The decision, according to a statement issued by the Delhi government, was taken at a meeting held at the Delhi secretariat headed by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and a team of Ministers. .

Among the beneficiaries, the statement said further, are the families of eight policemen: ASIs Vijay Singh, Jeetender and Mahavir Singh, head constables Guljhari Lal and Raj Pal Singh Kasana, SI Khajan Singh, ASI (Exe.) Dharambir Singh and constable Amarpal.

“Mr. Sisodia directed the officers to immediately go ahead with the ex-gratia payment,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Vijay Singh, ASI, was performing duties of PSO of Bhupender Singh on the orders of High Court. While accompanying Bhupender Singh on April 30, 2019, a few miscreants came on a motorcycle and opened fire at them, following which he succumbed to injuries.

Jeetender Singh, ASI, was on traffic duty on November 13, 2018, when he stopped a vehicle violating traffic rules. The driver tried to run over him, he held on to the handle of the speeding vehicle and finally fell down and succumbed to injuries.

Mahavir Singh, ASI, was on drunken drive checking duty on July 12, 2018, when he tried to stop a car. The car rammed into barricades and eventually hit him. Guljhari Lal, head constable, was on night picket duty at Dwarka underpass on January 7, 2019 when a speeding car hit him.

Rajpal Singh Kasana, head constable, was chasing an illegal arms supplier on January 14, 2019, when a car hit his motorcycle and he succumbed injuries. Khajan Singh, SI, was visiting Jhajjar in search of missing children on October 20, 2017, where he died in a road accident.

Dharambir Singh, ASI, on October 20, 2017, was collecting sensitive information about some gang members when he met with a road accident. Amarpal, constable, was travelling on December 21, 2017, to investigate a case when he met with an accident.
