An investigation into the theft of mobiles led the Angamaly police to a bunch of juveniles who were allegedly engaged in a series of thefts in Idukki and Ernakulam districts.
The police arrested five juveniles in this connection who will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board shortly.
The Angamaly police had arrested two accused, including a juvenile, in connection with the theft of mobiles worth over ₹2 lakh from a shop at Angamaly last month. Interrogating the juvenile provided the police with information, which led them to the gang he was allegedly part of. “It emerged that they had stolen money from an ATM of Kerala Gramin Bank at Kanjar in Thodupuzha besides breaking into around four shops in the locality. It was also found that they had stolen around ten motorcycles from various parts of Ernakulam, especially from near bus stands at Aluva and Angamaly,” said G. Arun, Sub Inspector, Angamaly. The police recovered six motorcycles and a bicycle. It is suspected that the accused might have been involved in cases in other parts of Kerala and even in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
