Sweets were distributed in exchange for plastic items

The BJP on Tuesday celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday across its 14 districts and 280 mandals here.

Senior party leaders from the Capital began the celebrations with a photo exhibition on Mr. Modi’s political journey which was inaugurated by Union Minister Hardeep Puri, Delhi in-charge Shyam Jaju and Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari followed by a community feeding session at its Delhi headquarters.

Union Minister V.K. Singh and former Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel organised a camp where 1,000 kg of sweets were distributed in exchange for plastic items such as used bottles in a joint bid to both commemorate the Prime Minister’s birthday as well as take his anti-plastic campaign to the streets of Old Delhi.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also joined in extending birthday greetings to Mr. Modi on Twitter where he said, “Happy birthday to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji. We wish him a long and healthy life.”

While Mr. Tiwari distributed a laddoo cake to attendees at India Gate, former Mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation and Councillor Adesh Gupta took the opportunity to celebrate the Prime Minister’s birthday and the withdrawal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir by cutting a cake that weighed 370 kg, in west Patel Nagar.

‘Work tirelessly’

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made India proud. He has been given the highest civil award by most of the countries. Every Indian is proud of such a Prime Minister. We should take inspiration from him and discharge our duties by working tirelessly 24/7,” Mr. Jaju said.
