Huge haul of illicit liquor and narcotic drugs

In month-long Statewide drive

Large quantities of illicit liquor and narcotic drugs were seized during a month-long State-wide special enforcement drive that was undertaken by the Excise department during the Onam season.

1,687 Abkari cases

The Operation Vishudhi, which was conducted from August 10 to September 15, resulted in the registration of 1,687 Abkari cases in which 1,390 people were booked, 836 cases pertaining to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in which 868 people were booked, and 8418 cases relating to the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act were registered.

The confiscated items include 577.9 litres of arrack, 28,301 litres of koda (undistilled spirit), 3,528.695 litres of India-made foreign liquor, 1,578.3 litres of toddy, and 1,054.448 litres of liquor from other States.

Drugs seized

It also includes 250.327 kg of ganja, 139 ganja plants, 8.821 grams of hashish oil, 10 grams of brown sugar, 4.208 grams of MDMA, 230mg of LSD, 279mg of cocaine, 1,263 tablets of various drugs, 1,1835.5kg of tobacco products and 178 vehicles.
