KANPUR: A man in Ghatampur area of the district dressed up in ladies 'kurta-leggies' and 'dupatta', shot dead a person in one-sided enmity on September 13 night and escaped from the scene assuming that he would not be identified. However, he could not succeed in hoodwinking the police and was arrested on Monday night. The police recovered the clothes, a country-made pistol of 315 bore and several live cartridges from the accused and sent him to jail on Tuesday.
Accused Sandeep alias Guru (35) of Ramsari village had shot dead Satyendra Singh Bhadauria (32), husband of Puja Bhadauria, the village head of Ramsari. "Sandeep was tracked through eyewitnesses account and call detail record (CDR). We arrested him from Ghatampur on Monday night. He has confessed that he always aspired to become the head of Ramsari village panchayat. He wanted to contest the panchayat election but the sitting village head Puja's husband Satyendra was causing hurdles in his way. He thus decided to eliminate him," said SSP Anant Deo.
Sandeep has told us that as he was aware of the political enmity between Bhura Singh of the village with Satyendra, he thought that none would suspect him of the murder, the SSP added.

The SSP added: "Sandeep decided to commit the crime while wearing 'kurta-leggies' and 'dupatta' to hoodwink the eyewitnesses and police. On September 10, he purchased the clothes from a garment shop in Ghatampur and dressed up for the crime. He loaded his country-made pistol and took position behind a eucalyptus tree near Satyendra's house on Khadanja road. As soon as Satyendra came out of his house, Sandeep shot him and escaped from the spot. Satyendra died on the spot."
The police said that Sandeep was sent to jail on Tuesday on charges of murder.
