JAIPUR: A youth was
beaten up in Tonk in full public view by half-a-dozen accused, who are yet to be arrested. The bystanders reportedly watched the thrashing but no one came forward to help the youth. Police claimed that the youth had photographs of a girl with whom he was in a relationship previously and the accused wanted his mobile phone.
The youth has been identified as 22-year-old Atmaram Saini and the incident is of Tal Katora village in Kotwali police area.
“Five to six unidentified accused allegedly attacked the victim on Tuesday afternoon and beat him up in public view. He was thrashed by them with sticks and slapped as well. The reason appears to be that he had photographs on his mobile phone of a girl who he was in a relationship with. The accused wanted those photographs and beat him up to get his mobile phone. Once they got the phone, they fled from the scene,” added an official of Kotwali police.
The victim’s medical examination was done and case registered under relevant IPC sections including Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
Police have taken the statement of the victim and the official added, “Though he has sustained injuries, they were not of serious kind. We will question those who saw the alleged thrashing as well as try to find out if those who beat up Saini were in anyway related to the girl who he was supposedly in a relationship with. At present, the accused are unidentified but we will check the victim’s mobile location also, to see if that can lead us to the accused as it is likely they were also locals.”
