The Education Department has placed K. Rajasekaran, a government schoolteacher at Pillayarkuppam, under suspension. He had a case registered against him for alleged sexual misconduct.
Though the order issued by the Department on Monday did not cite sexual misconduct as the reason for his suspension, the Villianur police, last week, had registered a case against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
The order said Rajasekaran, a trained graduate teacher, now working on service placement at the Government High School, Pillayarkuppam, has been suspended with immediate effect. Following a complaint from the Child Welfare Committee, a case was registered against him for misbehaving with around 12 girls. Rajasekaran is said to be on the run.
A section of residents of Pilliarkuppam on Tuesday held a protest after locking the gates of the school demanding his dismissal and immediate arrest. They dispersed following assurances from the Education Department and the police.
