Show-cause notice to be issued to unrecognized schools

COIMBATORE: Two months after the list of unrecognized schools was released, the district school education department on Monday said it was in the process of verifying and compiling a list of unrecognized schools in block level.
The list would be finalized within this week and show-cause notices would be send to these schools within a month.
The schools in the list would be closed within this year with the direction of the district collectorate.
The directorate of school education had asked district school education departments to compile the list of unrecognized schools and expose their status to the public within May. However, the Coimbatore district education department released the list of unrecognized schools only in June. According to the official list, four matriculation schools, 14 CBSE schools, 205 play schools and 40 nursery and primary schools across four educational districts in Coimbatore were functioning without recognition.
When contacted, district chief education officer R Murugan on Monday said the district education officers were following up the status of the schools without recognition and were in the process of issuing show-cause notices. He said the department would close the schools within this year.
When contacted, a district education officer said they were verifying and finalizing the list of unrecognized play schools. “We are looking at whether the schools had submitted themselves to the fee committee. Block-level education officials have been verifying the schools which have no recognition,” the official said.
The official said they were also conducting field visits and collecting information about new play schools that have cropped up in the past year.
“Many of these schools run in a rented house and don’t have recognition. They run it as businesses,” the official. “We are compiling a list of such schools. We would finalize the list in a couple of days. Within a month, we would send the first show-cause notice to them. Based on the reply or the lack of it, we would send the second notice. As the final proceeding, we would shut down unrecognized schools with the help of the district collector,” the official said.
