NAGPUR: The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Monday asked the
Maharashtra government to inform whether it would be implementing the
EWS quota in private-aided and unaided medical colleges by next academic year.
A division bench comprising justices Ravi Deshpande and Vinay Joshi told the government to clear its position within two weeks.
The poser came while hearing a plea by 17-year-old Yash through his father Brjimohan Bhutada, praying for implementation of 10%
EWS quota in Maharashtra’s private and unaided medical colleges. Through counsel Shreerang Bhandarkar, the petitioner had sought directives to respondents to increase seats in all medical colleges with a view to accommodate more students under the 10% EWS quota. The petitioner demanded directives to respondents.to admit him in any of the private college on basis of his NEET score. He also prayed for declaring the provisional seat matrix for 2019-20 academic session for MBBS admissions, issued on July 6, as illegal and against the Constitution.
