The Masked Singer
Ten, 7.30pm
A show about Furries performing karaoke. I kind of understand why the Koreans might make it. It feels like the kind of thing that nation would do. Why we've made a version remains mysterious to me.
Power Meri
NITV, 7.30pm
In Papua New Guinea, rugby league is both the official national sport and the unofficial national religion. But it's a country that's also plagued by entrenched sexism and horrifying rates of violence against women, which makes the formation of a women's rugby league team a pretty big deal. This simple but handsome documentary follows that team, the Orchids, from its formation in 2017 over the course of the next 12 months. A period in which they play an exhibition match against Australian team the Jillaroos (who also happen to be world champions), and take part in the World Cup. This is a story full of wonderful characters and a tale of transformation not just for the powerful women – the power meris – directly involved, but for the nation as a whole.
