Four Indian boxers enter quarters of AIBA Men’s World Boxing C’ships

Four Indian boxers advanced to the quarterfinals with impressive victories in an all-win outing at the AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Ekaterinburg, Russia today.

They are Amit Panghal (52kg), debutant duo of Manish Kaushik (63kg) and Sanjeet Singroha (91kg) and Kavinder Bisht ( 57 kg).

Panghal is Asian Games gold-medallist while Kaushik is Commonwealth Games silver-winner.  Panghal defeated Turkey’s Batuhan Citfci.

Kaushik stunned fourth-seeded Mongolian Chinzorig Baatarsukh. Both the Indians claimed 5-0 victories. Sanjeet then caused another massive upset by defeating second-seeded Uzbek Sanjar Tursunov 3-2.

Bisht was the last Indian boxer in action today and defeated Finland’s Arslan Khataev 3-2 to claim a second successive quarterfinal spot at the marquee tournament.

Panghal is chasing a medal in his second world championship.  Kaushik and Sanjeet are making their debuts at the showpiece event.
