There are many unforgettable images from the recent floods that ravaged Karnataka — homes submerged, fields inundated, crumbled houses and cattle saved from being drowned. Photographs of the havoc wreaked by the devastating floods have been captured from all 28 districts of the State and put together for an exhibition. This is the first exhibition by the newly formed Karnataka State Photo-journalists Association (KSPJA). The Association will be inaugurated by the Karnataka Chief Minister on September 18 at 9 am.
Speaking about the aim behind the formation of the association, photo-journalist Eshwar S., President KSPJA says it was something that the world of photo-journalism owed to the districts of Karnataka. “The Bangalore Photo-Journalists Association with city photographers has been around for 18 years. However, there are photographers from the districts who work tirelessly to cover the events there. There is a need for a forum for their work. That was why we formed the KSPJA. As of now we have 200 members.”
Speaking of the exhibition Eshwar said “We have chosen the recent floods as the theme for our first exhibition. It is timely and showcases the work, often hazardous, done by the photographers. A hundred poignant, impactful, self-explanatory photographs have been selected from the works of 100 photographers covering many regions of the State. It is for people to know and understand the agony the people have gone through,” says Eshwar, adding that photos from Belgaum, Dharwad, Coorg, Mangaluru, Mysuru, Gadag, Ballary, Gulbarga and Raichur amongst other districts will be part of the exhibition.
Nikon India would have their technical team giving a demonstration of their cameras during the exhibition. They will also have their service team to address technical problems for cameramen.
