A Little Late with Lilly Singh makes its world premiere amid cheering fans

From self-producing videos for her YouTube channel to hosting a late-night show, Lilly Singh has well and truly made it. And it couldn’t have happened sooner. Here's everything you need to know about it, including where you can watch it

The build-up to the premiere of A Little Late with Lilly Singh was a lot like waiting for the new season of a hugely popular show; people just couldn’t stop talking about it. After all, it was something of a big (no, huge) deal since it marked the first time ever in late-night TV history that a woman of colour would host this popular network franchise. Previous hosts have included immediate predecessor, Carson Daly, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien and Stephen Colbert. However, a little late on Monday night (EST), with the whole world watching, Lilly Singh settled into the host’s chair with her first two guests—Mindy Kaling and her The Office co-star, Rainn Wilson. The rest will go down as late-night TV history.

What to expect from Episode 1 of A Little Late with Lilly Singh

In the opening monologue that Singh delivered on the very first episode of her new show, she at once addressed the fact that, while she’s not the most traditional host there’s ever been—“I mean, the media has mentioned that I’m a bi-sexual woman of colour so much that I feel like I should just change my name”—but she will not let that restrict her. The YouTube star then went on to thank the women of colour who paved the way for her by saying, “Someone like me could not be here without the many successful, powerful women of colour who led the way, am I right? And I think it’s important to thank them right now. So let’s give a round of applause to people like Mindy Kaling. What about Michelle Obama? And last, but not least, the brown M&M.” In her signature style of course.

It was really, really good to see that Singh retained a lot about what audiences love about her; the show began with a completely in-character sketch where Singh literally makes room for herself at a table of white, male executives to discuss her new show and tells them exactly how it’s going to be. This is followed by another “That’s SO Lilly!” moment—a rap song. True to her style, the show will feature lots of sketches, goofy dancing and, of course, in-studio interviews. After Kaling and Wilson, Kenan Thompson, Tracee Ellis Ross, and former late-night TV host, Chelsea Handler are slated to appear on the show later this week, according to Hindustan Times.

Where can you watch A Little Late with Lilly Singh

Singh had announced that the first episode would be uploaded to YouTube so that it can be watched no matter which part of the world you’re in. Currently, the show’s official YouTube channel has been updated with short, three-minute clips from the premiere. Like this one.

Meanwhile, everyone from Karlie Kloss to Jacqueline Fernandez has expressed their delight at watching Singh make it this far. Stay tuned for more.
