In her maiden speech as the first vice-chancellor of the only-women university in the northeast, Goswami expressed her willingness to do her best for all-round development of the institution. "It is indeed a good decision of the government to appoint a permanent vice-chancellor of the university after six years of it's establishment. I am ready to do my best for the university and I believe all sections of people will cooperate us in our efforts for the development of the institution," she said.
Kamal Malla Bujarbaruah, vice-chancellor of Assam Agricultural University, was the mentor of AWU till July this year.
The state government established the AWU in the Jamuguri area near the Rowriah airport by the Assam Women's University Act, 2013. Then CM Tarun gogoi had inaugurated the university on September 13, 2013.
Since it's establishment, the university fraternity has been demanding a permanent vice-chancellor and to upgrade it as a full-fledged university.
