VIJAYAWADA: A 31-year-old youngster died on the spot while his mother remains in critical condition after both attempted suicide by consuming poison at a room in Shobana Hotel, Gudivada in Krishna district on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Chaitanya (31) and his mother as Janaki Devi (52) – both residents of Saroor Nagar in Hyderabad. According to Gudivada Two-Town SI Srinivas, the incident happened at around 11 pm in the night when both of them decided to take the extreme measure by consuming rat poison.
However, hotel staff noticed a suspicious smell coming in from the room and soon knocked the door when they found Devi in a groggy condition while Chaitanya laid dead on the bed. They soon rushed her to Vijayawada Government General Hospital (GGH) for treatment where doctors said that her condition is yet to stabilize.

Upon information, cops reached the spot and examined the crime scene. Explaining their background, Srinivas said that Devi’s husband had passed away recently and since then their financial situation was badly affected. Cops said that Chaitanya was struggling from unemployment while there was no financial support from any of the relatives.
Surprisingly, even the close family members who were informed about the boy’s suicide refused come forth to collect the body and eventually cops took extra efforts to convince them to do so. A case under section 174 of CrPC (unnatural death) was registered at Gudivada Two Town Police Station. Further investigation is still on.
