Llorente eyes Liverpool revenge

2019-09-17 09:43

Cape Town - Napoli striker Fernando Llorente admits revenge will be on his mind when he lines up against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The 34-year-old was part of the Tottenham side beaten 2-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s Reds in the final of last year’s elite club competition.

The Spanish veteran came off the bench in the match but could not prevent the north Londoners losing to their Premier League rivals.

The game proved to be Llorente’s last for Spurs as he was then released by the north Londoners and moved on a free transfer to join the Partenopei.

Llorente knows all about Italian football, having played for Juventus for a couple of seasons, but has just 25 minutes of Serie A football under his belt so far this term.

He may well get the nod to face the Merseysiders and confessed that getting one over on the defending champions would be good both personally and for the club.

"It was painful to lose the final, it’s certainly revenge, but above all, it’s an opportunity to show that we can stay at their level,” he said.

Napoli have started well this season, winning two and losing one of their top-flight games, but they will take on a Liverpool side flying high at the top of the Premier League on maximum points after five games.

Llorente says they are in for a tough evening against a team who know how to get the job done.

"It will require a perfect game, great football, without mistakes because they are very strong when they steal the ball and go," he added. "They have many qualities and make you pay for every mistake."
