RCC to help Maldives set up cancer care centre

Health-care professionals to be trained in diagnostics, care and management

The State government and the Regional Cancer Centre have entered into an agreement of cooperation with the Republic of Maldives to help the latter establish its own cancer care centre and to help train Maldivian health-care professionals gain expertise in cancer diagnostics, care and management.

A Memorandum of Understanding, signed by Principal Secretary (Health) Rajan Khobragade and Health Minister of Maldives Abdulla Ameen, was exchanged in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Monday.

Health Minister K.K. Shylaja, Director of RCC Rekha Nair, Ambassador of Maldives to India Aishath Mohamed Didi and a delegation from the Maldivian Health Ministry were present.

Later, at a function organised at RCC, Ms. Shylaja described the initiative as a ‘milestone’ and said that the skill and expertise of RCC in cancer management would go a long way in helping the island nation set up its own cancer diagnostics and care facilities and gain expertise in the field.
