A new flight from Visakhapatnam to Rajamahendravaram, operated by IndiGo, was inaugurated by Visakhapatnam West MLA P.G.V.R. Naidu (Ganababu) at Visakhapatnam Airport on Sunday evening.
Tickets for the flight, selected for operation under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of the Government of India, would be priced low in order to boost tourism in both Rajamahendravaram and Visakhapatnam, Mr. Ganababu said.
“It would give a unique opportunity for first-time flyers as the price is fixed at ₹1,050. Officials from ONGC Rajahmundry, going to Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, can avail of the flight services from Vizag,” the MLA said.
Representatives of A.P. Air Travellers Association (APATA) said that international flyers could opt for this flight in the evening and put up at newly-opened rooms at the Vizag Airport to board international flights to Singapore and Malaysia the next morning.
Airport Director M. Raj Kishore said that this was the first flight from Vizag under RCS. The upper fare from Vizag to Rajamahendravaram has been fixed at ₹2,500 but the airline operator was at liberty to fix a lower price. The airline would be given Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for one year under RCS, he said.
The flight takes off from Rajamahendravaram at 5.45 p.m. and will land in Vizag at 6.30 p.m.
The return flight from Vizag takes off at 6.50 p.m. and will reach Rajamahendravaram at 7.40 p.m.
