Fitting problem for this fruit trader

Zakir Hussain has been searching for a perfect helmet for last 12 years
Vadodara: Most commuters across Gujarat began wearing helmets with a scowl after the amended Motor Vehicles Act was implemented in the state from Monday. But a fruit trader in Chhota Udepur, who wants to wear a helmet with pride, is not able to for last 12 years because of the size of his head.
Zakir Hussain Memon, who lives in Bodeli, was surprised when he could not find a helmet for himself when he bought the first bike of his life in 2007. Since then, 31-year-old Memon has been to every shop selling helmets in Chhota Udepur and Vadodara city to find the headgear of his size. “The shopkeepers give me the biggest size available with them, but my head just does not fit in,” said Memon.

On Monday, when the new law began to be implemented strictly, Memon went to Bodeli police station on his own to request the cops to be lenient towards him. “I have driving licence, PUC, insurance and registration papers and I carry them with me, but it is just the helmet which is a problem. I went to the police station to make them understand the situation and if they are adamant to make me follow the rule, police should give me a helmet of my size,” Memon said. On his way to his shop, Memon has to cross the main traffic junction of Bodeli where the cops were penalizing the violators. The cops too were left clueless on knowing Memon’s situation and for the time being have decided to not penalize him.
Recently, when Memon bought a costly bike, the company gave him a helmet, but that too did not fit him. “I can roam around in Bodeli without a helmet, but if I have to go to a neighbouring town, I will have to take a car,” he said.
