AHMEDABAD: Do not forget to take your essential documents such as the licence, insurance papers, and the RC book when you hit the road on Monday. Cops are geared up to collect hefty fines for traffic offences. The amended
Motor Vehicles Act notified by the
Gujarat government on September 10 will come into force from Monday.
Deputy commissioner of police, traffic (administration)
Tejas Patel said that the cops will be deployed at all major junctions in the city to make people follow traffic norms. “It will be business as usual for us on Monday, but we will not spare any offender and will not show any mercy,” Patel said. But the cops and the state government do not want to draw commuters’ ire.
Additional joint commissioner of police J R Mothalia said that people are advised not to panic and carry all necessary documents and, above all, use safety gear. “Police will be harsh only on the offenders,” said Mothalia. Over the past few days, people have been rushing to buy helmets.
Nayan Patel, a helmet shop owner in
Mirzapur, said that sales have increased rapidly over the past few days. “Earlier, we used to sell four to five helmets a day but now we sell 10 to 15 a day,” he said. “And just over the past two days, we have been selling 40 to 50.”
