A construction worker is fighting for life after he was crushed by two heavy steel beams at a Sydney construction site.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, finding a man suffering from abdominal, leg and head injuries.

He was taken to the emergency department at Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

The incident is the fourth major accident on a Sydney construction site in less than a week.

A 30-year-old man died last Wednesday in Sydney's west after his head became caught in machinery.

Emergency crews arrived to a St Marys timber pallet factory about 5.40am to a man suffering severe head injuries, but were unable to save him.

Another two construction workers were injured in separate incidents before 9am.

The following day, a man fell from a roof in Forestville.

Industry bodies demanded greater reform after last week's incidents, including industrial manslaughter laws penalising gross negligence.

The NSW government is currently reforming work health and safety within the sector as well as building regulations.
