24-yr-old dies giving birth to twins, family stages protest

Hyderabad: Relatives of a woman held a dharna at a private nursing home after a 24-year-old, R Mounika, died due to post-partum haemorrhage after undergoing a C-section surgery at a private nursing home, Matri Priya Nursing Home, in Uppal. The woman had delivered female twins who were rushed to the state-run Niloufer hospital after nursing home authorities suggested that the infants need to be checked at the hospital.

“My sister in law was taken into the operation theatre at 11.30 pm and was brought out at 7 am when she went into coma due to post-partum haemorrhage and shock. The hospital did not have a ventilator, defibrillator or even an ambulance to deal with the case. They should not have admitted and operated upon a patient carrying twins. My sister-in-law lost her life due to the negligence of hospitals authorities,” said Satish Racharla, a relative of the patient.
Nursing home authorities shifted the woman to KIMS hospital in Secunderabad where she succumbed after going into cardiac arrest. “She was given CPR there but it was too late. The time wasted in trying to save her without any equipment at the nursing home and then shifting her to other hospitals resulted in her death,” added the relative. As per the brother-in-law, even the twins delivered were having a low heart beat and were given treatment at the Niloufer hospital. Uppal police rushed to the spot to manage the situation said authorities.
