APW to seek 100% NRC re-verification in SC today

Supreme Court
GUWAHATI: The Assam Public Works (APW), an NGO on whose prayer the Supreme Court had ordered updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) a decade ago, will file yet another petition in the apex court on Monday - this time demanding 'purification' of the just-published list of citizens.

"We have been saying that there are names of a large number of foreigners in the NRC. My petition will be to seek 100% re-verification of the entire NRC," said Aabhijeet Sharma, president of the the Assam-based NGO.
The APW is not the only one which wants NRC re-verification. Both the Centre and the state government had made several appeals in the Supreme Court, seeking re-verification before the final NRC was published. However, the court had turned down their appeals after NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela submitted that he has already carried out data re-verification of 27% of the applicants.
