Arrests in ‘birthday party case’ help police solve murder

The arrest of a local gang from Sivanandapuram, after they cut cake with sword and machete at a birthday party, has helped the police to solve a murder.

Investigations by the police found that Muthuvel (37) and Sundar (42) from Saravanampatti, friends of the six persons arrested for the birthday party, was involved in the murder of a youth from K.G. Chavadi around six months ago and buried his body at a deserted place near Karamadai.

According to the police, Marimuthu (45) a resident of near K.G. Chavadi, was murdered by Muthuvel, Sundar and five others in March this year. The K.G. Chavadi police had registered a case after Marimuthu was reported missing.

Based on the confession of Muthuvel, the police exhumed remains of Marimuthu from an isolated place at Pogalur near Sirumugai on Monday.

K.G. Chavadi inspector Thoyyamani Vellaisamy said that a skeleton was exhumed from the place showed by Muthuvel and Sundar in the presence of Annur tahsildar and sent to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for further examination.

“Marimuthu and Muthuvel were into the sale of iridium and related objects for cheating. Muthuvel, Sundar and others came to know that Marimuthu had in his possession several lakhs that he had earned cheating people. Muthuvel and other accused took Marimuthu to the place in March on the pretext of a leisure trip and demanded a share of the money. As per the confession, they beat him to death as he refused to give money and the body was buried there,” said the officer.

The police have launched a hunt for other accused in the case.
