Motorists are being warned to expect long delays on the A55 as an abnormal load is transported through a set of roadworks.

North Wales Police has warned drivers that an abnormal load will be transported along the A55 from Threeways Garage in Abergele through roadworks at Llanddulas on Monday afternoon.

Due to the size of the load, motorists travelling in both directions will be hit by delays.

The carriageway will be closed in both directions while the load is transported.

Traffic Wales said: "There will be an abnormal load travelling Westbound on the A55 through the Kneeshaw Lupton roadworks shortly.

"Due to the size of the load the carriageway in both directions will be shut.

"Police and traffic officers are currently en route to escort."

On Facebook, the force said: "*Important* - please note that there will be further disruption on both westbound and eastbound carriageways of the A55 this afternoon as an abnormal load will be escorted from Threeways in Abergele at approx. 1pm which will be travelling westbound towards the general direction of Bangor.

"Due to the load size, both carriageways will be affected.

"This work will be done as quickly as possible and we thank you, in advance, for your patience."

Motorists have already had to endure long delays on the stretch of the A55 between Abergele and Colwyn Bay due to five weeks of roadworks at Llanddulas.

Currently, the eastbound carriageway is completely closed at the Kneeshaw Lupton bridge, with a contraflow system in place.

Repair work is being carried out on the bridge, which has caused delays for motorists.
