SURAT: The fire & emergency services department of
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has started to come down heavily on people who don’t follow fire safety norms in the city. Four textile markets and 500-odd shops in the shopping complexes located in different parts of the city were sealed by the
fire department in the past two days.
Fire personnel swooped down on the textile markets on Ring Road because they will soon start attracting more and more crowds because the festive season is just around the corner. Shree Laxmi Market that has 300 shops and Rushabh Market housing 900 shops were sealed for not having sufficient fire safety equipment. Rohit air-conditioned textile market having 160 shops and Shankar Textile Market with 110 shops were also sealed for the same reason.
Fire officials sealed 180 shops of Sargam Shopping Centre on
Gaurav Path and eight shops in Tirth Complex at Mota Varachha for inadequate fire safety measures.
