Over 10,000 children below the age of 14 are members in the library

Young readers would soon get a dedicated space at the District Central Library here, where they could indulge in their favourite comics and fantasy books without distraction. The district authorities have also sent a proposal for a dedicated children’s block at the library premises.

According to authorities, there over 10,000 children below the age of 14 are members in the library, as most of the government and private school students are provided with a membership here.

Collection

Officials said the library has a collection of 3,500 children’s books in English and Tamil and added that close to 1,000 new titles would be added to the section. The new section will also have indoor play materials including board games.

District Library Officer R. Gokilavani said the State government had recently announced ₹50 lakh for the construction of a dedicated children’s block, which would have dedicated computers, digital systems, and indoor play materials for children. “Books worth ₹4 lakh would soon be purchased for the student’s library,” she said.
