Rajkot: A teacher of a private tuition class was arrested on Sunday for allegedly molesting a class XII girl student in Khodpara locality of Jetpur in Rajkot district.
Apart from being booked under the section 354 (A) of Indian Penal Code dealing with molestation, police said the accused, identified as Pravin Nandania (46), was also booked under Atrocity Act as the survivor is a Dalit.
“Nandania teaches at Kumbhani Girls’ School run by Jetpur Municipality where the survivor studies. She also attends his tuition class. On August 29, Nandania called the survivor in the lobby of his class and offered to make her pass the class XII board exam with high percentage, if she has a physical relationship with him,” said an official from Jetpur police station.
After this, the survivor sank into depression and would lock herself in her room and cry at night. When her mother noticed her changing behaviour, she grilled her and the girl narrated the incident. Following this, the mother took the girl to the police station and lodged the complaint against Nandania on Friday night.
Nandania was arrested from his residence in Somnath Society on Amarnagar Road in Jetpur on Sunday.
