Dharwad: Deputy chief minister
Laxman Savadi on Tuesday said they are awaiting a report from the law department on new
traffic rule violations to
revise the related
penalties.
Speaking during a programme to confer
Nrupatunga Award instituted by Kannada Sahitya Parishat, on veteran poet
Channaveera Kanavi, Savadi said that government was seriously considering to reduce heavy penalty imposed by central government. “Gujarat has already done it, and we are waiting the law department’s word. After reviewing it, we will issue the revised order,” Savadi said.
“People should follow traffic rules in the interest of society. I don’t mind if a traffic cop imposes penalty for my violation too,” he said.
Speaking to reporters, Savadi said the government is mulling over questioning the transport authority appellate tribunal’s order allowing private buses to ply between Hubballi and Dharwad. Savadi also said he will ensure good buses to north Karnataka. When asked about the Goa CM’s refusal to attend Mahadayi meeting, Savadi said that opposition party in Goa has pressurised the CM to do so.
The award, sponsored by BMTC, was presented to Kanavi in the presence of minister Jagadish Shettar, KSP president Manu Baligar, district KSP president Lingaraj Angadi and others.
