Students from CBSE schools taking admission to Plus One in State schools no longer have to worry about submitting affidavits as proof of appearing for the board examinations following an order of the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The commission has asked the Director of General Education (DGE) to issue directions to State school authorities to stop demanding affidavits from students who have passed class 10 in the CBSE stream and want to seek admission to Plus One.
It has also asked the DGE to put a stop to the practice of seeking nativity, community, or income certificate from students who belong to the general category and do not receive any other benefits.
The commission order comes on a complaint from a student who secured 96.4% marks in the CBSE class 10 examination but was told by the school authorities at the time of applying for Plus One to submit an affidavit on stamp paper. The school argued that the affidavit was required this year too.
General category
Though the student belonged to the general category and did not receive any benefits, he was asked to produce various certificates. Such an attitude was adopted largely in the case of CBSE students, the student said.
However, the education authorities clarified that only students who cleared the CBSE class 10 examination before 2018 required the affidavit, not those who passed it later. Students who did not receive any benefits were not required to produce the certificates mentioned in the complaint.
The commission asked the DGE to pass orders asking school authorities to desist from seeking affidavits from students or certificates from those who do not request any benefits.
