The venues of the Onam festivities across the capital city witnessed heavy rush on Sunday, even as the week-long Onam celebrations are set to conclude with a colourful procession and pageantry in the city on Monday evening.
Hundreds gathered at the Nishagandhi auditorium and other venues to witness the programmes held on Sunday. Various programmes are planned on Monday also, the final day of the Onam festivities.
They include a kalaripayattu performance by Ayodhana Kalakshetra, a dance recital by Asha Sarath and the Bichu Thirumala music nite at the Greenfield Stadium. A Mohiniyattam performance will be held at Nishagandhi at 6 p.m., which will be followed by the valedictory session of the celebrations at 7 p.m.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan will flag off the pageantry from near the Keltron junction at 5 p.m.
Half-day holiday
Educational institutions in the district will function only till 12 noon on Monday in view of the Onam pageantry, District Collector K. Gopalakrishnan has said. Traffic curbs will be in place in the city from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
