Only LMVs to be allowed during the day

The Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner has banned movement of vehicles on the Charmadi Ghat stretch of Mangaluru-Villipuram highway in the night till October 14. Only light vehicles will be allowed on the stretch in the day between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

sThe stretch between Kottigehara and Charmadi was closed for the last one month, following landslips.

Bagadi Gautam, DC, in his order issued on Saturday, said that considering the condition of the road on the stretch, light motor vehicles (LMV) will be allowed only during the day.

Traffic will not be allowed between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

People who travel during the day time have to be careful while crossing the stretch and maintain a speed below 20 km per hour.

Photography on the stretch is banned. Vehicles allowed are cars, jeeps, vans, mini-vans, two-wheelers, and ambulance vehicles.

The heavy vehicles have to take alternative routes.

The DC issued this order based on the status report submitted by the Executive Engineer of National Highways Division (Hassan). The officer, in the report, said temporary measures had been taken at the places where damages occurred.

“The permanent work for the damage caused due to heavy rains would require ₹ 300 crores. The work would begin once the estimates were approved by the government,” the report stated.
